Carbon Intensity

(CI)
Definition

The amount of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions produced per unit of output, such as per unit of energy generated, per unit of GDP, or per unit of product produced. It is a measure of how efficiently an economy, industry, or process uses carbon to generate energy or produce goods. Lower carbon intensity indicates a cleaner, more sustainable operation with fewer emissions relative to its output. Reducing carbon intensity is a key goal in efforts to combat climate change and achieve net-zero emissions.
